The Bottom Line:
Great price, reputable manufacturer- get it!
I bought my Acer AL 1706 a few months ago for a great price - $129 from Fry's. I connected it to an IBM Thinkcentre 2.8 Ghz 1MBRAM with an Nvidia Geforce 7600GS graphics card. On this paticular machine, I primarily play games and manipulate photos and videos, so I wanted a strong monitor that wasn't too big for my small gaming desk. Set-up was vert easy, with no need for software installation; this was a great selling point. I have noticed that a lot of monitors have a software suit attached to them, which is a pain in the butt, big-time. The Acer AL 1706 is a true plug and play, and following set up, I loved the fact that the screen automatically detected and adjusted to the computer's video card. Of course, I made some minor adjustments through Nvidia's great control panel, but overall the set-up was a breeze. Images are bright and vibrant, without being tiring on the eyes; pixels are smoothly blended, and the screen has an exceptionally fast response time. It's capable of very high HZ ratings to for nice, eye-cooling refresh rates, and does very well with fast moving, graphics-munching shooter games. I find the whites to be very nice, making it a great WP screen, as well. Photos are very vibrant and liquidy, and the screen responds well to lighting and effects modifications to videos and photos.
