Yes
The Bottom Line:
Overall I love the im7. I leave my bose sound dock in the kitchen and use the im7 just about everywhere else.
My husband got the Bose Sound dock when he bought me the ipod video for Christmas last year. 6 months later he gave me the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 for my birthday. He said he got it because the Bose wasn't portable and thought I might like a portable unit for taking room to room or outside.
I took it out of the box to test it while he was at work. I had to page him. The sound was great. I like the sound even better than Bose Sound dock.
As for the portability, it is if you mean can use batteries instead of a cord and take it to any room in the house (which is all I needed). It is a little heavy with batteries and the carry handle is marginal. So, you won't find me walking around the neighborhood with it on my shoulders 80s style.
The remote response is iffy at times. Sometimes, I have to press and press again, press hold, etc. until it changes the volume. It must be pointed directly at it. The Bose sound dock remote requires only a press and it responds and doesn't always have to be pointed directly at it but in the general direction.
This Christmas my husband is getting me the JBL ontime with the alarm clock for my ipod. I'll have to write about that one when I get it.
