The Bottom Line:
this is awesome but the screen is too big!
I have had my mac book pro 17a for about a year and a half- it is my second mac, the first was a PowerBook G4. The only two complaints I have had have been case related- both have had he aluminum cases, which dent and warp. I have a speck case now (the clear/colorfully tinted plastic over-cases). The second complaint is in regard to size- I have recently discovered there is such a thing as ajust to biga. The screen is great for movies and graphics, but to carry it to school and home every day is a chore. So ajust to biga has become the prime descriptor for my computer. My older Mac, a 15a power book G4 is not that bad (its fine)- the only reason I got this screen size was to get the more powerful processor that accompanies it, but I wish it were a 15a.
Of course, it is a Mac- everything is on the positive side-it runs so smoothly that it is all worth the trouble carrying about a massive chassis and behemoth screen. Leopard (the new OS) functions so well together- it is truly like aclockworka. Of course its got a great sound system (uh, its a mac) which is a big bonus for road trips- when you forget your head phones. If you decide to get a Macbook Pro, you must absolutely get the extended warranty (totally worth it).
