Didn't think it could get any better . . . but it did.

Pros Keeps it hot without scorching.
Cons Cleaning, I guess, but even that's not too bad.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Your best choice if you like coffee.
I started drinking coffee from a Bunn home brewer at an early age. My parents switched from an old-style percolator to a Bunn when I was about 10 years old, and I'm 30, now. That's 20 years of quality coffee, and I think they are only on their second machine.

When I moved out on my own, I tried several different (cheaper) coffee makers (including Mr. Coffee and Krups) but never obtained the results I wanted, in either taste or convenience. I ended up buying a used, commercial-grade Bunn brewer at a garage sale and finally got the tasty coffee I was accustomed to. The commercial maker took up too much space on the counter though, and after three years, I've now purchased this thermal-carafe Bunn brewer. The chief advantage is that the carafe keeps the coffee hot (for at least two hours, and usually three or four) without an electric warmer, so the coffee doesn't scorch and remains drinkable for a lot longer. I didn't think the classic Bunn design could really be improved, but the thermal carafe proved me wrong.

You can expect to get at least 10 years of service from a Bunn brewer if you keep it clean. Lime build-up is about the only thing to worry about, and cleaning every few months can be a pain, but that's the only drawback I can think of. Just follow the directions.

This is not a 'feature-packed' coffee maker. It's a machine that is all about the coffee, not about how it looks on the counter, or how many special functions it performs. It does only one thing, but it does it very, very well. If you look at the photo, you will see that this unit has only a single button. Bunn calls it a 'vacation switch,' but it's really an 'on/off' button. However, you don't turn the coffee maker off unless you're going to be away for an extended period, which is why they call it a 'vacation switch.'

Bunn uses a unique system that keeps hot water in the machine at all times, so it's ready to go at a moment's notice. All you do is put the coffee and filter in the 'brew funnel,' pour water in the top, close the lid, wait three minutes, and enjoy the coffee. This machine brews an entire 10-cup carafe in (literally) only three minutes, so there is little need for a timer or pause-and-serve feature.

Also, follow the instructions about water quality (use hard water) and experiment a bit to find the right grind, and you will be happy with the results.
