Terrific sound for budget HTPC

Cheap, great digital sound over Toslink.

Useless manual. Sometime there is no sound on RCA cable (might be my fault...)

The Bottom Line:
I would buy it again with no hesitation.
I decided to replace my old Creative Live because of the lack of support for 5.1 Dolby Digital sound.
I can't describe myself as a master in Digital video but I like to play around with my camcorder and author my own DVD's but enough about myself.
Package :
1 Videocard , black PCB and a few jumpers (see bellow)
1 Optical cable
1 Manual
1 CD with drivers and utils.(you can throw that to the garbage right away and download the newest drivers from

Installation :
A few hickups in this part , manual is pretty much useless on the hardware part and in the software part you don't need it.
There are some jumpers on the board which can be used to further configure thecard. Google the "Chaitech AV-710 Jumpers" string and find the forums explaining how to do that cause the manual is very hush hush about it.
Plugged the Optical out cable into card and receiver
RCA cable into card Line Out and TV.
Drivers instalation was easy but after restarting the first time on Windows XP there where some system errors which went away after the second restart.
Confguration.
Easy to understand interface , just switched to 5.1 mode and ..TADA!!! Crisp Digital Sound was showing and coming out on my Yamaha receiver.
That part was easy but...there was no sound on Line Out , tried all connectors and found the sound on Surround connector!!!
Everyday use:
Nice clear sound over the Optical out but just decent over the speaker/line out connection.
