Nice Case, But Could be Improved
Pros
Mesh front, Factory installed fans, Tool-less
Cons
Clips flimsy, only a 80mm fan in the front, badly written manual
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This case is good, but could be improved with a little effort from the manufacturer. The Centurion 5 is all of 4 stars.
Layout
The layout of a case is one of the most important things, the layout is very good, showing Cooler Master's quality. This is a tool-less case and works very well with that feature. All the drive bays have sliding, locking retention, and the expansion slot have clips to hold cards. The clips work on lighter cards, but beefy cards (such as graphic cards) you have to screw in, but the screw holes are provided.
Cooling
It comes from the factory with two fans, one 80mm in the front for intake and one 120mm in the back for exhaust. The front fans is designed to keep the hard drives cool, but a 120mm fan could have done the job a whole lot better. The left side panel has a fan cutout right over the CPU socket with a adjustable chute to get cold air to the cooling fan. It also has a mesh front with a filter to keep dust from getting in through the mesh, meshing allows for you to put fan in the drive bays if you want. The left side panel has a fan cutout right over the CPU socket with a adjustable chute to get cold air to the cooling fan. Instead of using the chute I took it out and installed a 80mm fan blowing in, which dropped internal temperatures, I'm sorry I can't give the exact temps, but this review will be updated when that is possible.
Front Ports
The Centurion 5 also has two USB ports, audio in/out, and a firewire port on the front panel, but these are on the bottom of the panel, so if you put your case on the floor they will be hard to reach.
Noise Level
Again I don't have the proper equipment to measure in DBs; however compared to my old case without fans it is much quieter.
Accessories
The accessories are well provided, plenty of screws and the like. In regards to the manual, it really could use some work, very sketchy and not well written.
Conclusion
Cooler Master is a well-known company with good products, and is not a exception, however it has a very badly written manual, though the manual does not reflect on performance a novice could have some trouble following instructions. Overall this is a good case, but has some weak points.
