The Bottom Line:
If you need a new gaming mouse, look no further.
I recently made the switch from a Microsoft Optical to the Razer Copperhead. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous, since I never tried the copperhead instore and just purchased it from razer's online shop. After a week, I received the mouse. I plugged it in, instantly recognized from the usb plug n play. I then chose to install the drivers.
At first I wasn't sure if I wanted the drivers, since I have heard so many people complaining about the software. Since I wanted to set the mouse to 400 dpi, instead of the default 2000, I went ahead and installed the drivers/config program.
I set up my preferences using the configurator. Which is really easy to do since it comes with a nice GUI. Once my options were set, I went off to play a game of counterstrike. The response on this mouse is hands down the best I've ever seen. Getting headshots were a lot easier, since the mouse stops the second you stop pushing it. For precision/accuracy, there isn't a better buy on the market.
The scroll wheel takes a little getting used to. It's a lot tighter than my microsoft mouse, which was loose in comparison. I however don't mind it since my microsoft one grew too loose overtime and it would move without me touching it. The rubber grips improve control, and they bind to my hand/fingers nicely.
I don't use the side buttons, but I can clearly see some issues with those who would want to use these. I'm right handed by the way, the buttons on the left side are easy to reach using my thumb. It's the buttons on the right side that require me to reposition my hand. By default these buttons are assigned to changing the dpi on the mouse. If you keep it at default, and come up with a setting that feels comfortable, you shouldn't have to change the dpi anyway.
Visually the mouse is pleasing. I have the neon green version, the scroll wheel is illuminated as is the rubber grip, and pulsing logo. Some people have said that it's too bright at night, but I don't have any issues with its brightness. Then again my computer already illuminates the room with its blue lcd's.
Lastly, the mouse 1 and mouse 2 buttons can be easy to click on accidentally. They're sensitive, which I actually like when playing fps games, so as long as you're careful with your movements, you shall be ok.
