Yes
The Bottom Line:
Great choice for a fairly mobile powerhouse. Not a gamer's machine.
I bought the Dell E1405 with a coupon code worth $750 on any e1405 as long as I added enough upgrades to make it cost $2,000. Well, I ended up spending $1300 and I am very pleased. Here are the specs on mine:
14.1" 1440x900
2GB DDR
2.0ghz Intel Core Duo CPU
DVD+/-RW
60GB 7200RPM HDD
I have had this laptop over 2 weeks now and have observed the following:
1) I believe 14.1" widescreen is the ideal size. I won't go into that here, but let me tell you I do my homework when making a purchase related to computers/electronics and I'm certain 14.1" was right for me. The screen on the Dell is the upgraded extra bright, glossy finish. It's definitely better indoors, but if you use the computer on the road or outdoors, you may find the high-glare display distracting. Good news, the anti-glare coating is about $50 less.
2) Being 14", I expected it to be a bit slimmer than it is. It's not terrible, but is a dissappointment never the less. MY friend just bought a 17" gateway and his is even thinner.
3) Power! Man, other than gaming (coming up next), this thing blows every other computer (including desktops) that I have ever owned away. The 2.0 Core Duo actually beats the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ in most tests. That is very impressive for such a mobile notebook. I have found this cpu, in combination with 2GB ram and a 7200RPM hard drive, to be tremendously good at multi-tasking. I use the computer for web design, instant messaging, e-mail, music, and more. It is common for me to have 10+ windows open. I can switch from Photoshop to Dreamweaver to Word to Excel to Outlook to Limewire to Internet Explorer to Winamp to mIRC...yeah you get the point... You really can do it all on here with no delay.
4) Gaming - I am a pretty big gamer, but I'm back to my old-school "classic" games now. I tried Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. If you want to play those, look elsewhere, I couldnt get over 50FPS in CS:S with the ugliest settings you can imagine. Older games run great, I still enjoy Half-Life, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, older Need For Speed games, and Command & Conquer.
Other things I won't expand on as much:
Good DVD/CD burner
Decent bundled software
