I'm Glad My Dog Ate My Other Remote!

bybreviceps Feb 14, 2005

Pros Easy to use, compact design, LCD screen, backlighting, great customer service.
Cons You'll need a computer to program the remote, no dedicated eject button.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my Sony RM-AV3000 remote for 2+ years and was quite happy with it. I'm able to program all my remotes so that 7 remote controls turned into one. It takes several button presses to operate a function like: watching TV, watching a movie, listening to the radio, etc. Multiple buttons need to... Read full review »

Complete control yet ulta simplicity

Pros A true smart remote, single button control, easy for you and guests to use.
Cons VERY LITTLE. Remote gets out of sync with device state, but that's rare and fixable.
Recommended it? Yes

First off, I have a TV, Satellite Dish, DVD player, Receiver, CD player, and VCR.

I used to be love the Universal Remote Control MX-500. It provided a lot of control and customization, macros, etc, and I only needed one remote to control all of my devices. However, I had a few problems... Read full review »

Almost perfect

Pros Even I could do it! Great tech support
Cons small buttons on remote and Logitech mandating too much private information in profile...
Recommended it? Yes

4 Devices = 4 remotes (TV, DVD, laser disc player, VCR). I've purchased universal remotes in the past to try to get rid of the clutter. I often could get 2 devices to work on the universal remote. But I never could get everything to work. And I could never get all of the functions that came on the... Read full review »

Very Complex Setup

bysrsmartin Aug 20, 2005

Pros Good for simple solutions
Cons Very time consuming for complex needs.
Recommended it? Yes

It is actually easy to set up - on the surface - but very difficult to get right if your system is at all complicated. I have a home entertainment system with an A/V receiver, TV, TIVO, CD player, and DVD player/burner combo. I normally watch TV through the TIVO, and download/burn a lot of movies... TIVO LOVERS PAY HEED!

bymsedaka Aug 12, 2005
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Well thought out layout. Easy enough for an amateur to install.
Cons Set-up interface might seem a bit clunky to seasoned installers.
Recommended it? Yes

As someone who practically has my Tivo remote glued to my hand, I was determined to find a Universal remote that came as close as possible to that glorious little piece of plastic. For a while now, I had been using a fully programmable Marantz 3200 with an LCD touch screen and, while it worked... Read full review »

Cooler than you think

Pros Activity buttons. Enormous database of remote control codes. Help button fixes most...
Cons Guide, info, and exit buttons are in strange places. But easy to get used to.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this remote control for my parents to help them easily navigate their various home theater components (5 in total). I was very skeptical about whether they would take to it. Turns out, it took only a 5 minute tutorial before they were completely comfortable using it. I love that this... Read full review »

The cat's meow!

bydeadeyesky Sep 27, 2006
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros A truly universal remote.
Cons This thing does everything except bring me a beer when I'm watching the tube.
Recommended it? Yes

I have owned other universal remotes in the past (even some that I paid more money for), but none of them ever allowed me full control of all of my equipment. At best, they provided limited control of some equipment and only after a series of somewhat cryptic button sequences. This remote controls... Read full review »
