Excellent Mid Priced Cpu

Pros Very Fast, Affordable, Great Overclocker, works well in vista
Cons Cpu prices drop, Runs very hot, Original fan is bad
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I recommend this to any user looking to upgrade their system or to someone switching to vista.
I purchased this on Ebay for approximately $155 brand new with the heatsink/retail fan.

Intel came out with a duo core 2 processor. The processor is not like the old intel pentium chip, because these run as 2 processors built into one. What this does is making your programs run quite a bit faster, since 2 processors are handling all the tasks, as opposed to one processor being bogged down with the computing.

The installation of the E6300 is like any other processor, It clicks down into the motherboard and is secured into place. You must then spread a small amount of thermal grease on there, which reduces the heat of the processor. Then you must installed the heatsink and fan, which takes the majority of the heat off the processor.

These processors do run quite hot, in fact, they were hitting almost 55 celcius in my computer, with the grease, fan, and heatsink.

Of course, there are companies that make seperate fans and heatsinks that reduce the heat even further, but thats for another review.

The E6300 runs at 1.86hz, has 2 megabytes of level 2 cache, and runs at a 1066mhz front side bus.
These terms may sound foreign to you, but the truth is that this is a very fast processor. Games run at full speed and applications load in split seconds. I am able to open up 4-5 internet pages, run a spreadsheet, run videos, and run excel without any slow down.
When creating videos or running photoshop, rendering is so quick that you are suprized at the results.

The Interesting thing about this cpu is the overclocking ability. Overclocking is where you take the original settings and tweak the voltage and speeds to push the processor beyond it's original specs. So for example, the frontside bus is default at 1066mhz. By increasing this, you are increasing the speed of the processor.

My motherboard adjusts the voltage settings automatically. I was able to significantly increase the speed of the 6300 processor by running it at 1900fsb. I would not recommend this to other people, since you may destroy or burn your processor. At those settings, I was able to run it at 3.34hz, almost double the original speed.
So obviously, you can see, how great a deal this cpu really is. Even at it's stock settings it's very fast.

The duocore 2 is a must for vista, because of the multitasking thats involved in the new operating system. There are a lot of visuals and data thats being running all at once and the other cpus just don't have the power to handle them.

The duo core 2's are listed as follows
E4300 Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8GHz 2M L2 (800fsb)
E6300 Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz 2M shared L2
E6330 Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz 4m

2 notes, All of these processors can be installed on any motherboard that has a 775 processor slot and all duo core 2's that have 4m of level 2 cache are slightly harder to overclock due to the bigger cache. At default, they are faster and run applications quicker.

I really like the E6300 processor, it's affordable, fast, and a great overclocker for the brave.

If you really have the money, go for the quad core cpus which run 4 processors in 1 chip! talk about fast!
