Almost perfect if I didn't get the dreaded "fatal error during install"
Pros
smooth, highly recommended by hundreds of users
Cons
got "fatal error during install" when installing mouse
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Can't really recommend this mouse, too many driver problems
This mouse is darn near perfect. With 327 reviews averaging 4.5 stars it's one of the highest rated mice of all time on Amazon and it's easy to see why. It's very smooth and lightweight and fits well in the average hand.
I've been through several mice this year alone and finally gave up on wireless mice. Had a few logitech that just weren't cutting it, then I bought the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2.0 which worked great for 4 months or so before it would stop receiving a signal every ten minutes. Corded is the only way to go, no batteries and no interference or loss signals.
My only problem is when I originally plugged it in the mouse didn't work in Windows XP. Red light didn't come on and the PC acted like it wasn't even there. Went into Device Manager to see an exclamation mark on the mouse and a message to reinstall the driver. Reinstalled the driver and got a weird error: fatal error during install
fatal error? Googled that and the very first result is about a logitech mouse getting this error (Glad I'm not alone). Here's the directions I followed to fix the error:
--Uninstall SetPoint
--rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wdf01000.sys
--run CCleaner (great program btw) on the registry to remove any old installation files.
--Restart computer
Voila! Mouse works. Haven't reinstalled SetPoint yet, probably do that after posting this
UPDATE: installed the setpoint drivers but it didn't help anything. Tried updating the drivers but I received the same Fatal error during installation message. Guess I'll just be happy the mouse works and leave it alone.
2nd UPDATE: Revo Uninstaller also works for uninstalling all the setpoint files and registry entries. Use Revo Uninstaller and it'll do everything and the mouse will work without restarting.
