Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure

Pros Interesting Story, Original Gameplay, Beautiful Graffiti, Superb Soundtrack
Cons Sometimes audio is off
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Definitely a title worth owning, great game play and story and enough to be one of the best niche titles.
Marc Ecko's first foray into the video game industry proves to be a sleeper hit that should not be ignored. Packed with a star-studded cast and enough music to bring diversity to any IPod, the game does not disappoint.

GAMEPLAY
The core of the game revolves around taking Trane, the main character, and tagging various spots with graffiti. It sounds simple enough, but then again, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was just supposed to be skateboarding. Tagging becomes extremely intricate as you select what designs you want to use prior to entering a stage, which include spray paint, stickers, stencils, markers, and other items. While certain spots are mandatory, just about any surface you can find can be vandalized. These actions are not legal in the city the game takes place and you will find yourself either desperately avoiding or going toe-to-toe with law enforcement, who carry assault rifles, pistols, and night clubs to your spray can. Rivals also appear in stages and will try their best to send you to the infirmary. Besides the fighting, which is simple but fun, reaching some of the more coveted tagging spots involves an intricate mix of Spider-Man and Prince of Persia acrobatics. Just... watch out for that Mac Truck, Train and Auto Gun.

SOUND
One of the most notable parts of the game is its soundtrack, which is full of urban flare and underground influence. Certain tracks will play during vital parts of the game, to which they fit in perfectly and add to the drama that is unfolding. The voice acting, which comes from rapper Talib Kweli and actress Rosario Dawson are top notch and won't have any player twitching with disappointment. Brittany Murphy, Andy Dick, George Hamilton, Adam West, and Giovanni Ribisi all performed beautifully.

AESTHETICS
Level Design and Graphics are both above average, especially in later in the game when things become much more interesting. The game's interface is especially original, revolving around a city's subway system which provides a fresh look from the usual navigation. Also, most important, the designs that you will be able to choose from are simply amazing and become more and more dazzling as you unlock them.

STORY
The story is one of the game's strong points, evolving from a simple endeavor into gaining more respect to a full fledged political scandal. The rise and fall of characters, development--everything is just as one would expect from an award winning novelist and in some respects, is better.

OVERALL
The game has a replay value somewhere just a notch below any of the Tony Hawk games, which would make it a beautiful addition to anyone's Playstation 2 Library. Definitely should at least be tried out. 8.5/10
