Age of Mythology ~ Not as good as Age of Empires

Pros Anything to do with mythology is always cool.
Cons Feels a little outdated
Recommended it? Yes

I am completely enthralled with Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings and it's expansion, Age of Conquerors. I think that soured Age of Mythology for me just a bit. Oh don't get me wrong, this is a great game.... it just isn't quite as engaging as it's cousin, close, but not quite.

Ensemble Studios Brings Us To Another Age

bygorocco Dec 13, 2002

Pros Easy to use interface, Varying twists to the real time strategy formula
Cons Mediocre AI, average single player experience, too much base building
Recommended it? Yes

With all of the RTS games out there, the phrase "beating a dead horse" more than applies to this genre. We've seen everything from humans and orcs to Star Wars licenced games. Now, Ensemble Studios, the happy folk who brought us Age of Empires (AOE) I and II, come back with yet another RTS. Age of... Read full review »

Pros Myth units, spells, selection of deities
Cons Minor nitpicky details
Recommended it? Yes

I have been a big fan of Ensemble Studios since the release of Age of Empires 2 (AoE2). When I found out that they were producing an "Age" game based on the mythology of various civilizations, I knew that this was a game I had to own. I don't know how long I've been waiting for it, but the long... Read full review »

Immerse yourself in the ancient Age of Mythology.

Pros Less resource micromanagement. Pretty water. Fierce God Powers.
Cons Only three civilizations because it's a resource hog.
Recommended it? Yes

The release of Age of Mythology (AoM) was continually delayed by Microsoft and/or Ensemble Studios to make some more refinements to the game. The wait was for the most part worth it, as we are presented with a real time strategy (RTS) game that has some interesting quirks that set it apart from... Read full review »

Focusing on a gripe with deathmatch in single player, random map

Pros Pretty, fun, interesting god powers, rotateable camera, zoom feature, lots of things to...
Cons Screwy difficulty settings, Odd scale on some things. Can't play defensively

Since a lot of other people have already commented on the graphics and mythological aspects of this game, I'm going to start right in with my gripe about single player game play. Although I'll mostly be complaining, I still like the game. I wouldn't bother with it if it wasn't still a great game... Read full review »

There are several games in the world that became a classic. There are several games that from their name alone, or the name of the company became a world wide success. When I say that I refer to the ten greatest.. Civilization for one, Age of Empires are not far down the list.

THE BASIC BEEF
It's finally here! After first hearing of Ensemble Studios' latest project, I was no less than thrilled. The outcome? The finest, and hopefully not last installment in their RTS library. After Age of Empires and Age of Empires 2: The Age of Kings, Age of Mythology promised... Read full review »

'Age of Mythology: Gold' is your average RTS(real time strategy) game.. But Microsoft made it so you know it's worth your time. If you haven't played any of the titles under the Age of Empires franchize, you probably don't know what to expect but hopefully I can clear that up for you real quick... Read full review »

Cons Formulaic and monotonous for people who play lots of games in this genre.

I got this game after seeing ridiculously high reviews for it on multiple sites. While major review sites opinions are valuable because they see so many different games they do know what they are talking about and how games measure up, the problem is that they have to review a game in a brief... Age of Mythology

From the makers of Age of Empires comes a strategy game where the line between history and mythology has been blurred. In Age of Mythology heroes do battle with monsters of legend, and the gods intervene in the affairs of mortal men. Age of Mythology players wage war as leaders of a Greek, Norse, or Egyptian civilization with a customized pantheon. Players use human armies and diplomacy, progress through development ages, enhance military and economic performance with improvements, and manage economics through resource gathering and trade. Mythology enters the mix when players call upon the gods to act on their behalf or reinforce their armies with more than 20 mythological creatures such as jackal-headed Egyptian warriors or mighty minotaurs. Age of Mythology's revolutionary 3-D engine provides the game with gorgeous environments featuring lifelike rolling terrain, beautiful waves and water, realistic sunlight, and lush forests. The units roaming these environments are incredibly detailed, move naturally over the terrain, and come to life through hundreds of fluid animations. Amazing special effects change the look of this beautiful world when the gods get involved: all grows dark as an eclipse takes effect, funnel clouds twist and grow as a tornado sends buildings spinning toward the heavens, and meteors streak in from the heavens to send people and armies flying. An entertaining tutorial, an intuitive interface, and logical game rules allow anyone to quickly and easily learn to play. Once started, there is a lot to explore: an epic 36 scenario single player campaign, easy-to-use multiplayer gaming online, single player games against the challenging Age of Mythology AI opponents, more than 15 different random map types that help make the game infinitely replayable, nine highly differentiated civilizations, multiple difficulty levels to allow players of any skill level to have an enjoyable game, and a fully functional scenario editor. Age of Mythology offers something for everyone: a fun game for any playing style or skill level.
