Update!
Pros
Resolution choices, colors, physical size, and very bright!
Cons
Speakers are horrible, letters "glare" a bit at MOST resolutions.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you want intense color and brightness... this has it! If you're willing to play with the settings, you'll really like this monitor! I do!
I've had this for about 2 weeks now.
At first, I was worried that the glare was going to be a problem. In the store, all the lights were glaring so bad, I could see myself, like looking into a mirror! Then I noticed that it was noticeable, only where the screen was black. Where ever the screen was lit, I didn't notice the reflection. Very strange!
I Bought it for $700, brought it home and it looks really good!
I haven't hooked it up to TV yet, but I was a bit disappointed to find out that the PIP only has three size choices and I think three locations. Double check this if it's important to you. This allows you to watch one station piped straight into the monitor and record another station through your Computer hardware.
Pros:
Nice size. Resolution's great with lots of choices. Colors are awesome and the brightness is... well, I keep it at about 50%... that's how bright it can get! No flicker, refresh issues noticed, even at it's highest res.
Cons:
The speakers suck! But then, you can't compare these tiny things to anything real. At some resolutions, letters seem to "glare" or look strange. Possibly a resolution/contrast/brightness issue. But I couldn't seem to get them to look good.
UPDATE 6/28/06
After playing with this for 2 months at all resolutions on both my PC and Mac Mini: Text looks great at one resolution: 1680 X 1050! It looks awesome, but it's so small now! Several of the resolutions display text very poorly. I also have a hard time getting text to look good even when playing with all the possible settings. I figured out that the text actually looks a lot better if I UNsharpen the monitor. Everything seems to be extreme with this monitor! I have the brightness turned down to about 20%, contrast about 40%, focus way down to 15%. Glare has never been a problem. I've played with every setting, (and there's plenty of them!). I believe this is made to be used in a very bright environment. It'll shine like the sun! If you're going to use it at its highest resolution, I very highly recommend this monitor. But, check out all the resolutions, (text size), at the store first to see if you like it. I did compare it to all the other monitors Fry's Electronics had and it seemed to be the best! Still haven't used the TV part. Oh yeah! Did I mention that the speakers are pathetic!?! Use your own!
