The Bottom Line:
Just skip it.
While at Gamestop, my husband picked up Far Cry: Vengeance for me to try. It was a price drop and only $20, so he figure what the heck, why not?
I'm mostly use to RPG's, this would be only the second FPS game that I've played, so I may not be as critical about things as some gamers might be when talking about FPS, so keep that in mind when reading my take on it.
Story
Not a big storyline here, I'm not sure if that's typical of FPS or not, but you play Jack Carver and you go through mission after mission to complete the game. Missions are generally to get to a certain point, find a certain thing or hold off the enemies. As to who this Jack Carver is exactly, is a mystery in this game, there is no real explanation of him or how he came to get his special feral ability that he possesses. If you've played previous versions of Far Cry on PC or Xbox, you might have an idea about the character, but as far as this game, no background is given on him.
Gameplay
As I mentioned previously, you do various missions to complete the game. I haven't finished the whole game as of yet, my 14 year old son has gotten further than I have as he has an easier time with the controls.
You use both the nunchuck and the wiimote to play the game, nunchuck is mainly for moving around and the wiimote for shooting and fighting. You have a ton of weapons at your disposal, the only problem is that you can only hold three at a time, but don't worry, the enemies are always dropping weapons for you to pick up, so you shouldn't find yourself without any weapon. To shoot, just point the wiimote at the screen to aim the pointer and shoot.
Once you get used to using the nunchuck to walk around and the wiimote to shoot, then you have the awkward jumping. To jump, you're suppose to be moving forward with the nunchuck and then jerk up with it to jump, but you will usually have to try a few times because it never seems to work right the first time and if you're not facing where you are jumping correctly, you won't make the jump.
Zooming in for the sniper mode also feels kind of awkward, you have to quickly thrust the wiimote forward to get into sniper mode, unfortunately it usually throws off where you're facing when you do this, so you'll have to readjust where you're facing after getting into sniper mode. Once in sniper mode, taking head shots is easy. Getting a bunch of head shots will allow you to heal yourself and also go into feral mode.
Feral mode is bizarre, Jack turns into this powerful creature with huge claws and can slash the heck out of the enemies. I'm not particularly fond of this mode, but my 14 year old thinks it's pretty cool. Feral mode will only last a short time, so use your time wisely.
There is also a two-player split screen mode, we haven't it yet though.
Graphics and Sound
This is where the game has problems. Sounds aren't that impressive, I mean yeah, you have the sounds of the guns and all, but nothing sticks out as being great. Also, the things that the enemies shout at you get repetitive after a while and can get quite annoying. Because of some of what the enemies say and the blood, the game is rated Mature.
As far as graphics goes, they really did a bad job on this one. I'm not one to have high expectations out of a Wii game, but the graphics in this one are not good at all. There is a lot of blurriness to things in this game, even in the cut scenes. I would say the graphics are probably on par with pre-last generation consoles, they just dropped the ball on graphics here. It's not that you can't see things, it's not that blurry, but it's definitely not sharp, I've seen better graphics on DS games.
Conclusion
Unfortunately, even with the price dropped to $20, I don't think I could recommend this to any serious gamer. The controls can be awkward at times and I think the bad graphics of the game are just too much for someone just wanting to have fun playing a game, who wants to get frustrated when all you're doing is trying to have fun?
I'd have to say, skip this game, but if the price does draw you in, just be prepared for a less than stellar game.
