Pros Expansion Capabilities, Palm 4.0 OS, New Apps.
Cons No Color, Not Compatible With Other Cradles or Handspring Attachments

Think Palm Vx revitalized and ready to meet the future and you have the Palm m500. I?ve spent a week with the m500 obtained from retail sources in advance of the release scheduled for later in the month. Virtually everything contained in my m505 review applies to the m500 except for the screen... Read full review »

Pros silent alarms, expansion capability, USB or serial sync
Cons inverted backlight, SD cards mostly vaporware, yet another hotsync connector
Recommended it? No

I got the chance to see the m500 recently when Palm came to the Boston PDA User Group. He didn't have the m505, but luckily a different Palm employee who came to the New England Palm User Group a few days later did. I already wrote a review of the m505 (see... Read full review »

I know many people have been waiting for some time now for a new Palm handheld... not the redesigned m100s and m105s, which are the old palms in new cases and sizes but Palms with something extra. In March 2001, Palm announced the m500 and m505 series handhelds. Finally, the m500 is available for... Read full review »

Certainly Not a Question of Need

Pros Better display, rechargeable battery
Cons EXPENSIVE (and its accessories, too!)

Just what do you need a Palm Pilot for anyway?

That?s not the point, is it? It?s just fun!

I must admit that was a driving factor in my desire for a Palm. The main reason, however, was to be able to read texts when I have a chunk of time in my busy schedule without having to... Read full review »

Palm Fights Back with the m500

bygorocco Apr 29, 2001
15 Helpfuls 16 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Slim, sleek, metal design. SD/MMC expansion slot, LED and vibrating alarm
Cons Limited expansion devices, lack of backward compatibility with Palm accessories
Recommended it? Yes

Many people have been waiting for some time now for a new Palm handheld, a response to the competition posed by Handspring's Visor line and Sony's Clie. The m100s and m105s were nice, but they are the old palms in new cases and sizes and with a new gimmick (the color face plates to individualize... Read full review »

Palm makes a mistake with the 500!

byjurusz Jul 26, 2001
14 Helpfuls 15 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Thinner than the V, the sketchpad app is nice to have.
Cons Incompatible with other Palm stuff, memory chip is a disappointment.
Recommended it? No

I used the V for 18 months and grew to depend on it. New technology comes out -- a must! The 500 is thinner (nice) it has a decent sized clock (nice - throw away BigClock) and it has the sketch feature so you can scribble down telephone numbers without having to fiddle with the character recog or... First Impressions

Upon purchasing my m500 from Amazon.com, I was skeptical as to how much use I would get from it. After It arrived and I had already let it sit for 2 hours charging in the cradle, I was sure that I made a good decision.

I just love this PDA and use it daily. We purchased one for my husband to use 6 months ago and he finds it essential in running our business. I thought that this kind of PDA would be a bit more than I needed as a housewife but after playing around with his I just knew that I wanted this PDA!

Why bother?

bystevenam Jan 13, 2003
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Small, functional
Cons Incompatible with old cradle, same as older Palms.
Recommended it? No

In and of itself, there's not TOO much to gripe with about this Palm, other than the fact that the batteries are a fortune and not do-it-yourself changeable (plain old AAA's are far superior and more cost effective), and the SIGNIFICANT fact that purchasing this Palm requires a WHOLE NEW set of... Still a Great Palm Choice!

byinternetpilot Jul 16, 2004
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Small/thin, low power screen, 8mb RAM, SD card, Universal Connector, nice accessories.
Cons 16mb of RAM would be nicer, but that's about it!
Recommended it? Yes

I realize that I am a bit late in the game, but I purchased a M500 for a specific reason that I will explain later.

This is a great Palm device!

Despite what a lot of folks think, a color Palm or PocketPC is not always the way to go. Some of the color screens are anemic in... Read full review »

PalmOne m500 Handheld

Palm introduced the Palm V as the handheld for elite users: its anodized aluminum finish, small size, and thin profile--not to mention its premium price tag--were supposed to appeal to the upper echelon of executives. When the masses decided that a small and light device was worth the extra bucks, Palm found itself with its top-selling handheld. With the introduction of the Palm m500, it's clear that Palm has learned its lesson and is sticking with the successful form factor, while adding a handful of new features to incrementally advance the entire Palm family.
