Not Your Ordinary Boy...
The word albinism refers to a group of conditions inherited at birth. People who have albinism have little or no pigmentation in their eyes, skin, or hair. This is because they have inherited genes that do not make the usual amounts of a pigment called melanin.
One person in 17,000 in the...

Unknown is not a danger--it's another new discovery
Funny how this happened. The day I grabbed "Powder" out of the shelf in Blockbusters, was the day that a TV station played it...and watching it twice was not a bad thing at all. Not at all.
Powder is another one of those movies that inspire people to do good at least for a day. It's a...

Small-Town Tragedy
Several people have recommended Powder to me since it was first released, and last night I finally took the plunge and rented it. No matter how much I wanted to like this one, though, it didn't quite live up to the hype.
In a nutshell, Powder tells the story of a teenager born with psychic...

It Made Me Cry, Part 2. Where is the Powder Room?
Yes, I have found another movie which helps to relieve dry eyes. The title seems a little bit odd. Maybe that explains why I didn't notice this 1995 drama until 5 years after its release (I would have never noticed this film without a recommendation by a friend). Powder is an entertaining and... Human Cruelty in the Face of Acceptance
Although, this movie depicts a situation virtually impossible for today it shows how unaccepting and one minded we, as a society, can be in fear of what we don't understand or are unable to grasp. This movie shows the hardships of being different and being unable to find a place in this world, and... Read full review »
Humanity At Its Finest
Show me a movie that can make me cry, and I'll show you a movie that I will love forever...
I am not a person who cries easily. I remain rather unimpressed when a movie tries too hard to be "deep", or is classified as a "chick flick", I hate those! Give me a good film, with actors who...

Powder: fragile, emphereal, and deceivingly low-key.
I watched this movie once, a considerable amount of time ago. The impression remained with me for a lifetime.
It begins ordinarily enough, with the kind of premise you'd expect of cheesy rehashes. A dramatic beginning, a dead mother, a child locked away from all sight.
The plot...

When a Director?s Past DOES Matter
Sheriff Lance Henriksen (whose wife is terminally ill) and his men find an old man dead in his home, they also find a timid, hairless, albino teenager (!) hiding in the basement, apparently his only home his entire life. His name is Jeremy, but goes by the name Powder (Sean Patrick Flanery- in the... Read full review »
Some good points and some bad points
Sean Patrick Flannery plays Powder, a boy with unusual powers and an unusual skin color, whose family has hidden him away since birth due to these conditions. When the last remaining member of his family dies, he comes to the attention of county authorities, and he is placed in a school for boys... Read full review »
A gift of touch
Powder came as a surprise. I remember seeing a trailor for it in the theatre. The trailor didn't pitch the piece well and I didn't discover it until a few years later when I finally picked up a used VHS copy.
The film cannot help but touch because it speaks to the heart in all of us...
