marginal utility due to poor AM reception

Pros Nice looking interface, fair FM reception
Cons Terrible AM reception (a real deal-breaker!)
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  I think this would only be good if you are planning to record FM talk radio (i.e., NPR). See my review for why.
I am an avid AM radio listener and bought this to record shows such as Art Bell and the like. This product would be great for that if it received a few more AM stations. I get exactly two radio stations, which is less than my AM/FM clock radio. It gets pretty good FM reception. There is a plug on the device that seems to be for an external antenna, but the documentation included does not explain what this is for! I tried hooking up an external antenna to the plug, but it did nothing. The "trouble shooting" section of the manual has exactly one entry, for the case where the user has neglected to turn on the sound. Nothing about how to improve reception. Duh.
It's hard to imagine who this is targeting exactly. People who want to record music off the radio should use an Internet radio station and something like Stream Ripper to get their music; then it would have tags and all saved with it, and no commercials. People who want to record AM talk shows should, well, maybe get one of those radios with a tape and timer from Select you hear advertised. Those are kind of expensive, so I was excited to hear about this product and ordered one. Bad move. It basically sucks.
It will be good for recording shows from NPR (which is on FM), though, and I do plan to use it for that. I love Garrison Keeler!
