The Bottom Line:
Great monitor - works flawlessly with DVI components to deliver fantastic image quality.
I got this monitor as a replacement for my dual-17" CRT setup. both my CRT monitors were dying, so I figured I'd go LCD. This was my first "desktop" LCD monitor (I have 2 laptops).
The monitor looks great in its native resolution, and even better with DVI-D. The contrast is fantastic, as is the viewing angle (160/160). The monitor has no dead pixels (that's covered by the 3 year warranty anyway). The image clarity is fantastic, especially when compared to similarly priced alternatives. This screen has no distortion or "shadow" images; you'll notice both of these on most of the monitors that computer stores display.
The controls (contrary to popular belief) are very intuitive. The labels are embossed in the front of the monitor. An alternative to using these is to utilize the utilities on the CD that comes with the monitor. The brightness will probably have to be turned down out of the box - it is factory set to be pretty blinding! The 8ms response is great for gaming; it really blows monitors with 12-15ms responses out of the water. You *will* notice the difference if you ever use one.
The monitor supports both XVGA and DVI/DVI-D inputs. Most people will say they cannot see the difference, but there is a substantial difference in picture clarity, speed, and resolution changes. DVI-D gives you a throughput of 3.7 Gbit/s (with DVI-D). DVI also allows accurate pixel centering (where the encoding/decoding of this can be distorted in XVGA). DVI also allows a frequency increase from 65MHz to 125MHz, making for much faster and accurate images. All of this makes a big difference since most of the monitors I looked at only had XVGA inputs!
Another perk of this monitor (being DVI) is that if you have a TV tuner card, you can watch HDTV in its native resolution with full picture.
The only issue i have with this monitor is the stand. It *is* stable, but the monitor is easily shaken. To fix this, I'm getting a wall mount.
This, in my shopping, is the best monitor for the price.
