Pros Inexpensive; huge storage; quiet; cool; simple
Cons My computer will not boot if the drive is attached.
Recommended it? Yes

My wife is a major Photoshop junkie and I've recently gotten interested in making HD videos, and both of these demand lots of storage space. To give us some digital elbow room, we recently got a Seagate FreeAgent Desk ST31500FDA 1.5 TB external USB hard drive. After using it for about three months,... Read full review »

More back-up memory is better!

bymarindavid Dec 30, 2009

Pros Inexpensive, easy set up and operation
Cons The mixed nature of the reviews cannot safely be completely ignored.
Recommended it? Yes

Unlike the human mind, computer memory is pretty much unlimited in its capacity. A large external back-up drive makes it possible to store everything, safely, ‘outside the box' ... Just in case. The Seagate Free Agent is a very good option.

The days of storing computer data back-up on... Read full review »

Crashed a week later

Pros Attractive price, nice looking. That's about all I can think of.
Cons Not compatible with MAC. Worked a week. Lousy "live chat"
Recommended it? No

Bought mine at onsale at a nationally known membership buying store. While the price was attractive, there was nothing in the store or the Seagate package would indicate that it was not Mac compatible. Luckily, I still have some PCs in the house that run a specific PC only programs. I read the... Read full review »

Pros Great price, attractive case, and simple to hook-up out-of-the-box.
Cons EXTREMELY slow on Windows Vista x64.  Seagate's backup software is NOT x64 bit...
Recommended it? No

Purchased my Seagate FreeAgent 1.5TB USB last night and it's all boxed up and will be returned to the store tonight.

First, it was EXTREMELY slow.  I'd be better off uploading and downloading backups online.

I have Win Vista x64 O/S and found that Seagate's backup software package is... Read full review »

Pros Large Capacity
Cons Unreliable Performance, Poor Quality, Not Durable

I bought a Seagate 1.5 Terabyte USB drive in January, 2010 from Wal-Mart. One factor in choosing this drive was the 5 year warranty. This drive failed (clicking, not recognized, crashed everything) in 17 days. Wal-Mart only accepts electronics returns for 15 days, so I e-mailed Seagate. They... Read full review »

Bought mine at Costco recently.  I was impressed with the price and I have had good luck with Seagate in the past.  I'm really glad Costco has a good return policy because this will be back in their hands ASAP.  The problems with this drive started the first day I had it in... Read full review »
