"Hope is a dangerous thing" -The Shawshank Redemption (the excellent & excruciating w/o)
When I was twelve years old, I read my first book by Stephen King. Being more or less nocturnal, I always found myself deep into The Shining in the middle of the night. At the time we had a new kitten that delighted in jumping onto my bed under the covers, scaring the crap out of me. Looking back,... Read full review »

Shawshank Redemption: A Prison Movie and So Much More
Shawshank Redemption is one of those films I'd heard about for quite some time, but never got around to seeing. It wasn't like I had anything against the film, I just never had come across it on television when I was in the mood for a film, nor had it ever popped into my mind when I went to our... This Movie is a Repeat Watcher
I watched this movie the first time because I liked the story line that was previewed on the television commercials when this movie was in the theaters. I usually watch everything that Morgan Freeman is in and when I saw that he was playing opposite Tim Gibbons I knew this was a winner. I wasn't... Read full review »
The Price of Redemption
Andy Dufresne (Dufrain) has been guilty of many things before arriving at Shawshank prison, committed for the murder of his wife and her lover. "I don't think I showed her how much I loved her, he tells Red, a fellow prisonmate, about halfway through the movie. "Perhaps she wouldn't be dead right... Read full review »

I found this movie on accident while channel surfing several years ago. It was on HBO. I stopped and checked it out as nothing else was on. I ened up watching the rest of the show and loved it. It was a week or so later before I caught the whole thing on HBO again. To this day when I see this show... Read full review »

Put your faith in the Lord. Your *$$ belongs to me. Warden Samuel Norton

The Shawshank Redemption --- Written by Stephen King, Starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman
These walls are kind of funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em. Enough time passes, gets so you depend on them. That's institutionalized. They send you here for life, that's exactly what they take. The part that counts, anyways. -- Morgan Freeman as the character Red
Andy...

Shawshank Redemption DVD
In writer-director Frank Darabont's THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION Andy Dufresne Tim Robbins is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover in the late 1940s. However only Andy knows that he didn't commit the crimes. Sent to Shawshank Prison to do hard time Andy--a taciturn banker in the outside world--has to learn to get by in the brutal cutthroat confines of prison life. His quiet strength slowly earns the respect of his fellow inmates--most notably Red Morgan Freeman--and even much of the prison staff. But Andy's seemingly stoic acceptance of his unjust imprisonment hides a fierce determination for freedom. This beautifully crafted movie features touching and sincere performances from the entire cast with an uplifting message about humanity's indomitable spirit and the redemptive value of hope. Based on the novella RITA HAYWORTH AND SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION by Stephen King Darabont's intriguing adaptation is easily one of the finest films of the 1990s.

Shawshank Redemption [VHS]
When this popular prison drama was released in 1994, somecritics complained that the movie was too long (142 minutes) to sustain its story. Those complaints miss the point, because the passage of time is crucial to this story about patience, the squeaky wheels of justice, and the growth of a life-long friendship. Only when the film reaches its final, emotionally satisfying scene do you fully understand why writer-director Frank Darabont (adapting a novella by Stephen King) allows the story to unfold at its necessary pace, and the effect is dramatically rewarding. Tim Robbins plays a banker named Andy who's sent to Shawshank Prison on a murder charge, where he gets to know a life-term prisoner named Red (Morgan Freeman). Andy's calm, quiet exterior hides a great reserve of patience and fortitude, and Red comes to admire this mild-mannered man who first struck him as weak and unfit for prison life. So it is that The Shawshank Redemption builds considerable impact as a prison drama that defies the conventions of the genre (violence, brutality, riots) to illustrate its theme of faith, friendship, and survival. Nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Actor, and Screenplay, it's a remarkable film that signaled the arrival of a promising new filmmaker--a film that many movie lovers count among their all-time favorites. --Jeff Shannon
