The Bottom Line:
Good, reliable drive. Reasonable cost.
I recently purchased my WD3200, since I replaced my motherbaord with one that had SATA capability. The local computer store had some for $59. I ordered one online for store pickup, along with my new motherboard and other components needed for my system upgrade. I got home and unpacked the drive. Unpacking was easy.
The drive was packed in an antistatic bag and held in place between 2 molded plastic holders to prevent movement and damage. Included in the package was a manual, software CD, and mounting screws.
I installed the new motherboard and reinstalled Windows, as this was going to be my new system drive.
The included installation software takes you through the entire process, and gives a checklist at the end of each step. I did not use this, as I was doing a clean install, since my hardware drastically changed from my old system. The Data Lifeguard tools are more or less the same as any provided with any other WD drive.
This drive has a 16 MB cache and a 3 Gb/S transfer speed. This is considerably faster than my old drive, although, honestly, I couldn't see much difference a lot of the time. There certainly was some improvement.
The drive has been 100% reliable. No errors via the SMART reporting system. This has been over several months of intense use.
