4 Best PSP Games Based On PS2 Games
Some of the best games are those designed specifically for the PSP that were based off of PS2 titles. Here’s a look at some of the best examples.
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters for PSP
from
$19.99
When the PSP was launched, it was touted as a virtual replacement for the Playstation 2. It has similar power, great graphics, and amazing 3D potential, and since launch, many PS2 games have been ported over. However, some of the best games are those designed specifically for the PSP that were based off of PS2 titles. Here’s a look at some of the best examples.
Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron - The Star Wars Battlefront series is unique in that it makes the player into a grunt soldier in the Star Wars universe. You’ll rarely play as a Jedi or a general or anything else notable--most of the time, you’ll be getting mowed down on the front lines with the rest of the dumb soldiers. And you know what? That makes this game a lot of fun.
Renegade Squadron improves the multiplayer experience of the Battlefront series and tweaks the controls to make a satisfying PSP experience. It might have been better if auto targeting was more difficult, but as it is, it’s a perfect travel game; great for a few hours of game play at a time, and the perfect blend of engaging action and pick up and play style. Battlefront Renegade Squadron can be purchased for less than $20. It’s a must have for fans of third person shooter games and a great Star Wars title for the PSP.
Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines - This is a great game set between Assassin’s Creed 1 and 2. Unlike its console cousins, it could use a little less emphasis on combat, but there’s plenty of puzzles and fun to be had for the dedicated gamer. Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines is a great game for newcomers to the series, but it’s best for fans of the original Assassin’s Creed game and its sequel.
God Of War: Chains Of Olympus - God of War is one of Sony’s flagship series, and it arrives on the PSP with style and flair. There’s no better platform/action game, and it’s hard not to get addicted to Chains of Olympus.
There’s a lot of blood, gore, and evisceration, so this really isn’t a great game for kids. With that being said, older gamers will absolutely love Chains of Olympus. It’s everything that a God of War title should be, shrunk down to an easy-to-carry package. In fact, Chains of Olympus is one of the best reasons for a console owner to pick up a PSP, and it’s under $20 here.
Ratchet And Clank: Size Matters - This entry in Insomniac’s beloved platform/shooter hybrid has all of the irreverent humor and varied game play that made its console entries such a treat. While there are a few control issues in Size Matters, it’s more than an adequate experience for Ratchet and Clank fans. This is one of the coolest buys on the PSP, as it provides a full story, engaging visuals, and only a very slight framerate loss from the PS2 versions of Ratchet and Clank. Size Matters is a must have for PSP owners, and it’s available on Shopping.com for under $10. Stop reading this--pick it up!
Fans of the series may also want to check out Secret Agent Clank, a more platform-based Ratchet and Clank game.
