byrzazueta Nov 6, 1999

Pros Clean, crisp prose; VERY accessible
Cons Can get dry, but only because of the subject matter
Recommended it? Yes

The gist:

* Text book posing as non-fiction

* Lightens up what should be a dry subject

* Clean, crisp prose makes for a good read

This book was written just for me.

OK, maybe that's not entirely true -- I have never met Charles Petzold and, beyond his... Read full review »

I wish this book was published when I was in school

Pros plain english explanation of how codes and computers work
Cons none really
Recommended it? Yes

Cons Angry and heavily critical in ways that don't appeal to me personally.
Recommended it? Yes

I was recently gifted this volume by a good friend. I enjoy poetry, but read it infrequently, essentially due to the fact that I have a young and growing family, and the contemplative mood appropriate to poetry in my opinion is not often a feature of my life right now.

Where typically I... Read full review »

We All Rise....

bymarkantony Apr 13, 2000
33 Helpfuls 34 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Beautifully Honest and Musically Moving
Cons Like the Diary of Ann Frank, Revealing in Every Way.
Recommended it? Yes

One of the best ways to introduce the layperson to poetry is to hand that person a copy of any of Maya Angelou's poetry collections. The collected volume spans the past thirty years of poetry that reap far more than rhythmic chants, the work distills the everyday experiences of a woman blazing... Read full review »
