For those of you who never played the original Caesar, or the even better Caesar II, you should know that this is a game of construction. If you need a comparison, it most closely resembles SimCity--some fans even call it SimRome. In Caesar III, you take on the job of a provincial governor in the Roman Empire, trying to extend the borders of Roman civilization and raising a great city out of the pagan dust. You build roads, clear forests, and plunk down virtually every kind of building and structure that was common in cities 2,000 years ago, all while fighting off the occasional barbarian horde and trying to make a profit on the venture. The defeat of the Covenant in the first Halo game was only a temporary victory, as the alien attackers have renewed their mission to wipe out all of humanity. Despite the human military force's and Master Chief's efforts, the Covenant have breeched the Earth's defenses and have left its inhabitants in a dismal situation. In the midst of desperation, players assume the role of Master Chief and lead the resistance against the Covenant to save the people of Earth from a gruesome demise. The long-awaited PC version of Bungie's FPS, Halo 2 offers the full single-player campaign and multiplayer maps of the original Xbox version, with the addition of the content in the Multiplayer Map Pack as well as a tool for building and customizing levels. The game requires Windows Vista. Less

For a long time I avoided the Caesar series. I had first seen the original Caesar years ago on my trusty AMIGA 500 and never could make head or tail out of it. The single floppy disc which it came on soon found its way to the darkest reaches of my disc box, never to emerge again.

Pros Challenging, absorbing, and gorgeously rendered
Cons You may not surface for hours

With the frenzy, justifiably, building over the release of Pharaoh, leave us not forget the zenith (to date) of the City Building Series sequence that fathered the genre, Caesar III.

C3 is to C2 what the Concorde is to a Wright-Curtiss biplane; and C2 was itself very good indeed.

Halo 2: Like old coffee ... simply stale

Pros Finally available for PC, new map editor
Cons Low quality graphics, plain dumb AI, repetitive gameplay, price, Vista only
Recommended it? No

Microsoft has been controversial, yet successful, in the release of two extremely hyped products: Windows Vista and the Halo franchise (created by Bungie). With the PC version of Halo 2 they're joined at the hip and despite the clear marketing purpose (rather than technology), it still turned out... Read full review »

This is a really fun game; you should definitely play it on insane!  One of the most difficult games I have ever played when set to that level and it made me really work at many of the levels and areas.  Get this game for sure! Read full review »
