The greatest text book ever written

byrzazueta Nov 6, 1999
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Clean, crisp prose; VERY accessible
Cons Can get dry, but only because of the subject matter
Recommended it? Yes

The gist:

* Text book posing as non-fiction

* Lightens up what should be a dry subject

* Clean, crisp prose makes for a good read

This book was written just for me.

OK, maybe that's not entirely true -- I have never met Charles Petzold and, beyond his... Read full review »

I wish this book was published when I was in school

bytitaniumtommy Aug 3, 2001

Pros plain english explanation of how codes and computers work
Cons none really
Recommended it? Yes

I wouldn't have struggled through my dry as heck Computer Science classes if this book was around then. Charles has a habit of creating good books on dry stuff. I mean, let's face it, figuring out how transistors and codes work is not really super fun. It can be amusing, it can even be interesting,... Read full review »

Pros Romantic, caters to both men and women, great justice is done to the play.
Cons If you don't understand Shakespeare, you won't like it.
Recommended it? Yes

Ever since I was a little girl I've loved this story. The story of two couples, one forced together against their own will, and another who just can't seem to be together. This is one of William Shakespeares tragic comedies that comes to more than a happy ending which will leave you smiling at... Read full review »

Much Ado About A Great Play

10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great Story, not too difficult to get through, everything works out in the end
Cons No blood and gore, if that's what appeals to you
Recommended it? Yes

This is my favorite play of all times. When I first read it, I fell in love with the characters and the language, and it became more than just assigned reading. And yes, I am just the kind of nerd who will read Shakespeare for fun.

There are two couples that the plot revolves around... Read full review »
