Ever since the first mention of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, we’ve been seeing tech demos of Epic Games’ masterpiece, Gears of War. Now that the game has hit store shelves, it’s obvious that the hype couldn’t exceed the brilliance that is the Unreal Engine 3.0. In Gears of War, you play as Marcus Fenix, a former war hero wrongly imprisoned by the government and now, the world’s lone hope. Combat the Locust Horde on the dilapidated streets of the planet Sera using a variety of machine guns, pistols, and grenades. Take the fight online in one of five unique multiplayer modes, and tackle the main campaign with a friend using online or split-screen coop. Less

Pros deep gameplay, great online multiplayer, tremendous graphics and sound
Cons story could use more depth, could use some more diverse multiplayer options
Recommended it? Yes

Gears of War is the title to have if you own an Xbox 360 this Christmas. Still one wonders whether this title is just a placeholder until Halo 3 comes out. Ironically this would be similar to a situation last generation where Epic released a surprisingly solid Unreal Championship for the original... Read full review »

Pros The meat, potatoes, side-dish and the dessert!
Cons Story needs some explaining, single campaign is short, no replay value.
Recommended it? Yes

Do you save the world, or go hunt some deer?

Pros Graphics, Sound, game is looooooooong!
Cons Main story, few glitches here and there, might be to long for some.
Recommended it? Yes

Bathseda's Elder Scrolls series has always had a sort of love hate relationship with gamers in general. Some love the series for their massive open ended structure and absorbing narrative, while others end up hopelessly lost and pine for a game where saving the world is really of far more import... Finally, A Killer App For The 360?

byunderdawg Apr 9, 2006

Pros huge, fun, lush environments
Cons animations, crime ain't easy, other annoying things
Recommended it? Yes
