The Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processor delivers revolutionary dual-core performance and breakthrough processor energy efficiency. Based on the revolutionary Intel Core Microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor has been developed for an increasingly multimedia-centered, high-definition world, and is designed to do more in less time. Intel Core 2 Duo processors operate at lower frequencies while producing higher performance compared to today s higher frequency processors, thus enabling quieter and smaller desktop PCs. A platform based on the Intel 965 Express Chipset family with an optimized memory engine for improved system performance, is the ideal compliment for the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. This combination of processor and chipset brings an unparalleled level of performance to the desktop. Less

Pros Great overclockability, value for money, a gem at the time
Cons Had minor issues with the stock HSF, but the issue is not typical.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this at the end of 2006 when it first came out. It was my first gaming cpu in a system which I built from scratch. It's still running today for my basic computer needs and can run most Source games without any problems. I chose this instead of the E6300 or E6600 because this was just right... Read full review »

Pros Easy to overclock, runs cool, doesn't use much energy.
Cons May require a large hsf replacement, as the stock HSF is not very good.
Recommended it? Yes

This is the processor I am using day in and day out and it is by far the best piece of hardware I have ever owned. Not only does it work perfectly and stay cool, it over-clocks like no tomorrow.

I have my little E8400 running at 4.0Ghz on air-cooling which was a lot easier to set-up than I... Read full review »

Pros Best value 4.0Ghz Dual Core 6MB L2 Cache processor available today.
Cons $165 less for me to spend on pizza.
Recommended it? Yes

Having built many PCs back to the days of paying $1,000 for a processor that ran at 100hz, recalling the progressions over almost 30 years has brought me to the point where justifying the purchase of another CPU has become nearly impossible due to the almost instantaneous launch and multi-task...
