This model appears to be based on the HFI-700. With fairly bright treble, reasonable midrange and an emphasis on midbass, they'd be a decent choice for movie watching and some games, but unfortunately the bass tends to a little boomy and slow sounding, overwhelming finer details, and treble tends to be a little sharp. If you're after a closed model that's easy to drive and fairly bassy, these might be a reasonable choice, but for a balanced sound they aren't a great pick. As usual, Ultrasone do a good job of making a closed headphone sound much less boxed in, so soundstage is very nice for a closed model. Comfort levels and durability are reasonable, and it appears that the infamous Ultrasone headbands are now made out of a more flexible material that isn't as prone to cracking. Less

In The Ears Of The Beholder - The Shure E2C

byAhab1973 Jul 10, 2007

Pros Compact, comfortable, very good, detailed sound.
Cons High price, Replacement sleeves and wax guards are costly, maybe not enough bass

Intro - I seem to have had a lifelong love affair with portable audio. As I noted in my earlier review of the Sandisk Sansa E 260 ( http://www.epinions.com/content_370631151236 ), I was into portable audio before iPod was ever a strange look on Steve Jobs' face as he was shaving at 5 AM. I've had... Read full review »

I'm going to start this review by telling you that I love music…and I've always wanted to take my music with me. I was one of the first in my neighborhood to own a cassette player in the early 70s…I worked up and through the Walkmans and Discmans (Walkmen? Discmen?) . They were ultimately... Read full review »

A Different World Of Sound!

bycmdr Jun 6, 2010
14 Helpfuls 15 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Stellar sound and better than average build quality.
Cons Price may put some people off. Not real 5.1 surround.
Recommended it? Yes

Most nights I watch a movie or a recording of a TV sci-fi or action show. I'm fortunate to have assembled an impressive 5.1 surround sound system which completely dominates our living space but unfortunate to have a partner who is early to bed, early to rise and (not unreasonably) can't stand loud... Good choice for sealed headphones.

byexcaliburn Jun 2, 2010
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Good sound quality, low price, 1/8" plug, very good cable.
Cons Less comfortable than non-sealing, prominent bass.
Recommended it? Yes

First off, let me say that I own a lot of higher-end headphones.  The HFI-780s are not the best I've ever heard, but they are very good and one of the better options if you need sealed headphones. If you don't, I'd give consideration to AKG, Beyerdynamic, or Grado.  This is the third pair... Read full review »
